From A Referring Psychologist:
It is essential that I have other professionals in my referral network that I respect and trust. Larry Cappel is one such esteemed colleague. Larry is a highly trained and skilled clinician who is grounded in integrity, compassionate care, and a firm commitment to helping his clients transform. Larry utilizes empirically-based techniques along with an expert application of Buddhist psychology and thereby creates highly effective and cutting edge treatment methodologies; applying his extensive knowledge of mindfulness based therapies, Larry then customizes treatment specifically for each of his clients. As a doctor, I have benefited greatly from my professional relationship with Larry, and I never hesitate to consult with and refer clients to him. Dr. Parker Wilson, Clinical Psychologist
An ADHD Coaching Client:
Ken is a rising star in a large accounting firm. He’s already a director and is younger than many of his peers. Due to his willingness to work hard and bulldog-like insistence on getting each little detail right, he is trusted with many important projects for his company. As he puts it: “I like my work. I’m good at it and it feels good to be well respected. Yet I’m miserable. I am so stressed out that I have trouble sleeping. I worry constantly that I’ll screw up and get fired. My temper has gotten so bad that I’m short tempered at work and I’m arguing with my wife and kids over stupid things. I can’t keep living like this.”
Ken was diagnosed with ADHD as a child and wonders if his ADHD is causing him to struggle now. Through our work together we decided that ADHD was affecting him now. I helped Ken with stress management skills, helped him manage frustration in a better way and helped him bring his work and home life back into balance. Today, Ken is still successful at work but he is able to leave work at work. He no longer fights with his wife over little things and has been able to let his children be children and be involved in their lives in a positive way.
Ken told me the other day “I’m amazed at how different I am at home now. I spent the weekend with my kids while my wife was away and we had a great time. I didn’t get irritated with them. I didn’t spend the weekend worrying about work either!”
From a Co-Teacher and Meditation Instructor
I’ve got to know Larry Cappel through the practice and study of meditation on the spiritual path for many years. We have worked together teaching meditation and mindfulness classes and facilitating groups. He’s an excellent teacher with a passion for helping others find their way to a happier life. I appreciate that he’s a dedicated and curious learner – always interested in exploring and discussing the intrinsic aspects of creativity, discovery and life’s journey. Eileen Kay, Boulder, CO
From a former Supervisee:
Larry served as my clinical supervisor for two years (2011-2013) while I was pursuing my Licensed Professional Counselor designation. Larry is an excellent clinician and supervisor, providing honest and straightforward feedback. He offers deep insight into cases and thought-provoking ideas around treatment and clinical development. His collaborative and easy-going style creates an open atmosphere in which I felt safe to share my thoughts and emotions freely. He is knowledgeable, wise, and has a great sense of humor. There was a very balanced feel to our supervision process; Larry held me accountable without micromanaging me, always accepting and encouraging me along the way. Larry’s guidance has been an instrumental part of my growth process as both a clinician and a person, and he continues to be an invaluable professional resource. I highly recommend him as a clinical supervisor or therapist. Misha Grodt, Licensed Professional Counselor: Luminance Counseling, Denver CO
